Happy Newsletter time.
Hello everyone. Another six months has gone by incredibly fast again. I just cannot believe how quickly time flies when you get older, but I am sure that none of you know what I am talking about yet. Things here at the Cowan household are still just moving right along. We are keeping busy with school and work, as I am sure you are too.
Nate is doing a lot better than he was earlier in the year. He had had a lot of health problems over the past year or so. He was having some unexplained abdominal pains that were excruciating at times. We had seen many doctors and specialists that could not figure out where the pain was coming from. We were finally referred to a surgeon that diagnosed a "sports hernia" and the problem was quickly fixed with a small laparoscopic surgery. Soon after the surgery he began suffering from occasional anxiety attacks where he could not leave the house. He is doing a lot better now and things are looking up with his health. He is going in for a minor surgery this week to remove a growth that has been growing on his wrist. This has definitely not been his year, but we are hoping that 2010 brings great things for him. Work is still going well and he was just rewarded with an unexpected raise. We are so proud of him.
Mindy is still just doing the usual "Mommy/Wife duties". My family keeps me busy. I am working again this flu season doing flu shots at private clinics. This is my fourth year and I love being able to use my nursing skills at least once a year. It has kept me busy, yet again, for the month of October, but I love it. I hope to do it again next year. I am continuing to teach myself new things. I have been sewing a lot lately and I am really enjoying it. I learned to crochet earlier in the year and now I am ready to try my hand at quilting. I would love to learn and I am excited to try. Nate and I just got called to be the Cubmasters in our ward and we are having a great time with the calling.
Brinley turned 8 in July and we had a wonderful baptismal service for her. She is still doing extremely well in school and her teacher just loves her. She is a great listener in class (says her teacher) and she is still reading exceptionally well for her age. I hope her teacher helps her bring that listening skill home for good use! I sent my girls to a new charter school this year. It has an emphasis on technology and performing arts. Brinley loves it and it constantly singing songs from school and is so excited to perform in the Winter dance festival. She is learning to type and loves to be on the computer.
Adalynn is still our little sweetheart. She will still do anything for a hug and a kiss and she love to please people. She has been an incredible helper lately and a great listener. She is doing great with listening the first time and doing things without being asked. Addie, too, is enjoying first grade in her new school. Her favorite class is musical theater, I think. She is always talking about the fun things they have learned. She recently came home from school and told us she is learning about Mesopotamia. What a gal!
Porter is in his "Terrible Fours" stage. He loves to pester his little sister and push the limits. He can't decide whether or not he likes preschool this year because he doesn't get a snack or recess. Poor kid….he only goes for two hours. Port has started playing with Legos recently and loves them. I am constantly stepping on some small block that has been left out after Porter is done building. He is really into Star Wars right now and was Anakin last week for Halloween. He is a cute kid and we wouldn't trade him for anything.
Kamri is our little Angel and we love having her in our family. She has the cutest little personality and her dimples could just melt your heart. She will be 18 months at the end of this month. Wow, that has gone by fast. Nursery here we come. Kami is starting to talk up a storm and is constantly surprising us with new words. She loves to watch "Baby Signing Times" and has picked up quite a bit of Sign Language from it. It is cute to see her sign. She is such a smart girl. She is still quite a blondy and we are waiting patiently for her hair to come in so she looks more like a girl!
All-in-all the Cowan family is doing well. We had a fun time at Disneyland earlier in the summer. We recently survived the Swine flu so we are hoping that the rest of the season is kind to us and our health. We love you all and hope to be able to see you at Corey and Skyler's homecoming in December. Until next time….
Love,
Nate, Mindy, Brinley, Adalynn, Porter, and Kamri Cowan
